Conscientious Objector in Turkey

Osman Murat Ûlke is the first turk, who publicly has declared himself as a conscientious objector. Osman demands his right to refuse to kill other people, and he takes vigorous exception from the Turkish army and its assults on the Turkish and Kurdish population.

In Turkey there is no law that permits conscientious objection, and it is even forbidden to critisize the military in public. Therefore Osman has been condemned for several offences since he burned his induction papers at a press meeting in 1995.
